HOW TO RECRUIT THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THE JOB?

Put about 100 bricks in some particular order in a closed room with an open window.

Then send 2 or 3 candidates in the room and close the door.

Leave them alone and come back after 6 hours and then analyze the situation.

If they are counting the bricks. Put them in the accounts department.

If they are recounting them.. Put them in auditing.

If they have messed up the whole place with the bricks. Put them in engineering.

If they are arranging the bricks in some strange order. Put them in planning.

If they are throwing the bricks at each other. Put them in operations.

If they are sleeping. Put them in security.

If they have broken the bricks into pieces. Put them in information technology.

If they are sitting idle. Put them in human resources.

If they say they have tried different combinations, yet not a brick has been moved. Put them in sales.

If they have already left for the day. Put them in marketing.

If they are staring out of the window. Put them on strategic planning.

And then last but not least. If they are talking to each other and not a single brick has been moved. Congratulate them and put them in top management.

Bits of broken memories.

Yesterday, my younger brother happened to mention some of my old friends. Afterwards I went through the faded memories of my past happenings. Through my childhood, through my early school days and now I remember most of them by their name or by their face.

As I sit in front of my computer to write down my memories for blog, the first face fade in to me is of Neena my first crush. She lived in my neighborhood for 3 of 4 months when I was around 5 or 6 years old.

I used to visit my mom’s relatives lived in a rented house in “Kannammoola”, Trivandrum. There in that house, another family was also lived in the second portion. I don’t remember them, but I do remember a boy of that family. Even though I couldn’t remember his name, still I remember a weapon he always kept in his hand. That was a bit of broken ‘gate’ seemed to be a big arrow. He used this weapon to peel the big roots of a gigantic teak tree in backyard.
Another memory related to that place is a small vegetable shop opposite to the gate. We used to buy cucumber from there to eat raw.

In my first year in school, I had got a “Chechi” there. I don’t know what her name was, everybody used to call her “Mottachi” and obviously it can’t be a name. She was in 7th standard. She used to treat me as her own younger brother and came to feed me regularly in lunch brake.
I’ve got a lot of friends there in U.P.S. Palkulangara and most of them were with me there till my 7th standard. I remember Anil, Francis (Maala), Gireesh, Santhosh (Chakkala), Sajeev (he was in standard “A”), Lakshmi, Swapna, Divya, Ranjini (or Rajitha?) Manoj (Kunjan), Shinoj, syam, another Santhosh, Sijov….. etc etc…

I was the pet of almost all teachers taught me. I used to travel in their lap to other schools for competitions. I don’t know whether they remember me or not. But how can I forget them? Still I remember Eliyamma teacher. I and my younger brother used to visit her home almost all days and even had food from there. Her son Sijov was my classmate. I met his younger brother Sinov some days before in orkut. He said Sijov is now working as a Sanskrit teacher.

Once Eliyamma teacher gave me some clay and told me to ask my father a dog’s sculpture. He made it but I didn’t get that to her, instead I kept it for a long.

Oh…!! Its very difficult to recollect all in a string... well, I'll do it later :)

The name for the seventh book of 'Harry Potter' series announced

It was yesterday (22-12-2006) night when I was watching the news in 'Headlines Today' I heard the news for which I had been waiting for months.

"The name for the seventh book of 'Harry Potter' series announced - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"

This is the final book of J.K.Rowling's evertime hit 'Harry Potter' Series. There are speculations that she must kill Harry.

Thanks 'Headlines Today' to get me the news fresh.

Harry Potter - a wizard boy, whose parents were killed by the Dark Lord -Lord Voldemort- the most dangerous wizard ever lived, and whose name was frightened the whole wizards world. The wizards world called him "You know who" or He who must not be named". Harry Potter was the only one survived the Imperius Curse (Avada Kedavra).

Voldemort tried to kill Harry when he was only a kid of one year old. But Harry survived surprisingly with just a scar left on his forehead, and all the powers of Lord Voldemort gone.

As Harry's parents were killed by Voldemort, Albus Dumbledore -the headmaster for the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry- brought him to his uncle and aunt's possession. Harry's uncle and aunt both were Muggles (Non Magical People) and both were hated Potter family being wizards. Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and their son Dudley treated Harry in a sarcastic way. He lived his whole life in 'Private Drive' in the cupboard under the stairs of Dursley's home until he got his admission in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

In his 10th birthday Rubeus Hagrid -the half jaint- brought him Diagon Alley to purchase his study materials and school essentials, even though his uncle and aunt tried their maximum to prevent him from joining the school. Hagrid gave him the ticket for Hogwarts express and left. It was from Hagrid he know about the wizards world and even the fact that he was himself a wizard!!!
With the help of a wizard family (Weasleys) he met at London railway station, he found the platform 'nine and three quarters' from where the Hogwarts Express departs every September 1 at 11am without fail.

In the Hogwarts Express he met his bosom friends Ron (Ronald Weasley) and Hermione Granger who help later his encounters with Lord Voldemort.

As the story develops through the six books we can see some similarities between Harry and Voldemort such as both were Half-Blood, orphans and Parselmouth (one who can speak snake's language).

The name announced book 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' is the final of Harry Potter Series. Harry Potter fans all over the world awaits for the book eagerly as there is loads of rumors have already spread on this regard and people who love Harry looking forward longingly the release of seventh book 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'.

Have Nice Dreams

Rob kissed his wife, crawled into bed and fell asleep. All of a Sudden, he woke up to find an elderly man dressed in a white robe Standing at the foot of his bed.

" What the hell are you doing in my bedroom?... And who are you?"
He asked.

" This is not your bedroom," the man replied, " I am St. Peter, and You are in heaven."

" WHAT! Are you saying I'm dead? I don't want to die! I'm too Young," said Rob. "I want you to send me back immediately."

" It's not that easy", said St.Peter. " You can only return as a Dog or a hen. The choice is yours."

Rob thought about it for a while, and figured that being a dog is too tiring, but a hen probably has a nice and relaxed life.

" I want to return as a hen."

And in the next second, he found himself in a chicken run, really nicely feathered. But now he felt like his rear end was gonna Blow. Then along came another hen.

" Hey, you must be the new hen St. Pe! Ter told me about," she said.
" How do you like being a hen?"

" Well, OK I guess, but it feels like my ass is about to explode."

" Oh that!" said the other hen. " That's only the ovulation going On. You
need to lay an egg."

" How do I do that?" Rob asked.

" Cluck twice, and then push all you can."

Rob clucked twice and pushed more than he was good for, and then ' plop' an egg was on the ground.

" Wow" Rob said, " That felt really good!"

So he clucked again and squeezed. And you better believe that there was another egg on the ground.

The third time he clucked, he heard his wife shout:

" Rob, for Christ's sake! Wake up! You're shittin' all over the Bed!"

Ferrari Taxi In Trivandrum (The God's Own Capital) Kerala, India.

This is amazing to see a Ferrari as a taxi in capital city of Kerala state in India -Thiruvananthapuram. I don't know the history behind it - but I am guessing that most probably this must have been won as a lottery prize in UAE.

I wonder how many people can travel in this car though - and where does one put the luggage?

A Small Letter, A Big Change!!!
Okhil Chandra Sen wrote this letter to the Sahibganj divisional railway office in 1909. It is on display at the Railway Museum in New Delhi. It was also reproduced under the caption "Travelers' Tales" in the Far Eastern Economic Review
Okhil Babu's letter to the Railway Department : "I am arrive by passenger train Ahmedpur station and my belly is too much swelling with jackfruit. I am therefore went to privy. Just I doing the nuisance that guard making whistle blow for train to go off and I am running with 'lotah' in one hand and 'dhoti' in the next when I am fall over and expose all my shocking to man and female women on plateform. I am got leaved at Ahmedpur station.

This too much bad, if passenger go to make dung that dam guard not wait train five minutes for him. I am therefore pray your honour to make big fine on that guard for public sake. Otherwise I am making big report to papers."

Any guesses why this letter was of historic value? It apparently led to the introduction of toilets on trains.

The Emotional Environment

We live in a society where there has numerous external factors affect directly or indirectly to us and hence shape our perceptions and hence outlook. These are also influencing our personality and shape identity. The effects of such factors can be negative or positive according to the nature of these factors.

Now, let us look in to these influencive factors. Broadly they are our physical environment and emotional environment. Physical environments are the society we live, the culture of the society, economic status of the society as well as ours, our family, friends, media, politics, arts etc. Emotional environments, on the other hand, are those which we engender ourselves out of the physical environment. We see the physical environment, we hear them, touch them and feel them with our sense organs. These feelings are further being processed in our brain on the basis of the culture we follow, the ethics we practice, and the perspectives we made out of the influence of family, friends, society and media (Say physical environment). This process is perpetual, more over unconscious. The net result of this process can be named emotional environment. Thus both the physical and emotional environments are interrelated and interlinked. Let us check how the emotional environment develops and how they influence us.

We can clear it with a small mental experiment. Take two persons from different physical environments. One is well educated and well settled and the other is illiterate and slum living. Both were standing in a street for a long and the sun was shining above their head. There is public tap besides them. Observe what would they do. It is quite obvious that the illiterate slum living man would drink from the public tap, while the educated well settled would not, thinking that it is not suite for his status or the water may be infective or germicide. He would be more comfortable with this thirst rather than drinking from a public tap.

Now let us analyze physical environment of both of them. The illiterate slum living – he is a man of little knowledge, financially weak and his environment is slum, his family and friends are also from the slum and their views and attitudes are also according to it. He cannot find any fault to drink from the tap. It is not against his ethics and it can do nothing to his status. But on the contrary, the second man is well educated. He can think of the germs, he was from such as family, society, which taught him to think like that, more over he has to think what other people may think of him, seeing him drinking from a public tap.

Now look in to the picture again and again, what should be the main reason prevents him from quench this thirst. Obviously is his consciousness of status —the thought what others may think— that is his emotional environment. On the other hand, the emotional environment of the illiterate man has the preference of quenching thirst. His emotional environment just says him to drink, not conscious of others, rather it is quite natural to him.

Now let us look in to the emotional ethics on us. Take the two same persons on account. The first one educated gentle man waiting in a bus stop. He is already late to his destination. His bus arrives but did not stop there, just slow down and kept running. What would he do? He may run behind the bus for a few meter and make a sound “Shhh…” or alike, but misses his bus. He will be further late to his destination. Place the second man– illiterate slum living on the picture. What would be his performance? He will run behind the bus making voice above all sounds and attract the driver’s attention to stop the bus. According to his emotional environment that is the right thing to do. And he is right too. What harm could it do if it helps to save your time or at least to be on time?

The emotional environment is purely influenced with our culture, ethics and perspectives as I stated above. This process may also be unconscious. But it is not completely out our control. We can essentially direct our emotional environment. How? The answer is to sharpen our ethics and perspectives with adding some logics to it. Rethink your views on matters, reactions on situations and perspectives of dignity and reconstruct them with the spices of logics.

I think it would be worth reading the last paragraph in a little more depth. My next blog will be on that purpose, so keep visiting my blog.

It was on today my interview for the post of News Reporter Trainee in ACV, the regional television channel of Asianet. I have attended both written test and interview. I felt it very interesting and enjoyed it. My experience in media field is only a one-day assignment with the same ACV to assist on recent election result broadcasting (Online Support).

Even though it wasn’t my dream to be a journalist, I was passionate in the same from my school. As I started viewing Indiavision (A Leading Malayalam News Channel) Mr. Nikesh Kumar of Indiavision became my inspiration and I decided to take some initiatives to pursue MCJ and I look forward the job in ACV as a ladder to the same. Before joining for MCJ, I would like to clear for what extent my interest in this field will last and whether it is my field or not. Anyway, waiting for a call from ACV.
